Writing without ink

Asemic writing - shapes without semantic content which nonetheless bares characteristics of writing - can be a way of exploring rhythmical and gestural qualities of writing in a freer way. This might give new impulses when going back to working with actual letterforms. The motives of these posters all explore the flow of letterforms in a playful way.

They also explore the materiality of papers, as all of these posters are created without ink. The motives are burned, embossed or cut into the paper. Different papers respond differently the treatments. In some cases I am working with layers of papers on top of each other.

The motives have rhythm, but in a way, the papers has rhythm too. Some are smooth, while others have rough textures, creating patterns that play together with or against the writings.

Exhibited at Grafill as part of the exhibition Papir - An Exploration of Paper, November 2023.
